The "National Organic Program" (NOP) belongs to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and BCS was authorized in 2002. Certification according to NOP standards entitles the company to use the USDA NOP organic seal under compliance with the regulation requirements. The entire food chain of a certified product that is destined for sale in the US market must be certified to NOP standards. This includes raw material producers, processors and sometimes traders as well.
