Maytenus macrocarpa (Chuchuhuasi) is a native plant of the Amazon region of Peru, and it has been used as a medicinal plant since the time of ancient Peru. Contains alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, sterols, and triterpenes. Its bark is generally used as a brandy for the treatment of rheumatism, influenza, gastrointestinal diseases and as an antitumor agent.
